Your views not surprisingly are pretty unanimously shared. Mr Yorke is doing well but obviously will have to take it easy and try not to get stressed out. Easier said than done when he's serving a 14 year sentence for something he hasn't done but we'll do all we can to alleviate his stress as much as possible.

On another note. Members and visitors will be aware that the time on the forum's home page has been out of sync with the rest of the forum. While posts displayed the correct time, details of them on the main page were misreported as being an hour earlier (2 since Sunday). I have finally managed to get to the bottom of it, so that issue has been resolved.

With almost 2 days left of this month, the server has already issued well over quarter of a million pages. This upward trend is reflected in the official caseblog sites too. We've now added a page in that area listing some cases which already have independent websites so that they too can benefit from the traffic coming through WAP.

With more topics becoming active, I have rearranged the forum's home page so that more of the recently discussed topics are displayed. It makes little difference really but does mean that on busier days none are overlooked by visitors and/or search engines.

I've installed a new add on to the forum to make it easier to post meaningful links. Now, if you include a link, the 'title' will be 'fetched' automatically if you do not choose the text you want yourself.

If you enter the following

www.wronglyaccusedperson.org.uk, when you submit your post, the title will be found and the link would be displayed as Wrongly Accused Person - Help + advice for the accused + families.

However, if you were to enter

You can turn [url=http://www.yourlinkgoeshere.com]text from your post[/url] into a link. This can be useful when the website address is lengthy.
This should make it quicker and easier for new members or those who are unfamiliar with BB codes.

Last night I installed a couple of mods which should make things a little easier for members who are not familiar with BBcodes posting online information. It didn't work out exactly as I'd intended (I was trying to make it possible to post google earth files which would be viewable with notes, routes etc.) but has provided a few useful benefits.

Members now have access to a 'media' area, which can be found at the top of each page, where they can upload images and organise them into albums. These images can then be posted onto forum threads easily using the code provided which will look something like

[smg id=3 type=av] shown beneath the image/file beside the label "BBC embed code". Pasting that code into your post will display the image/video clip automatically without the need to use external sites. That particular code was a test upload of a short video clip from Danny Major's caseblog website and would be displayed thus -

Within the same add on package, there is also a function which automatically renders the embed coding for videos such as youtube clips so it is no longer necessary to use the youtube button above, simply pasting the link in your post now does it automatically for you.

That is, not including posts which I haven't had time as yet to transfer from the previous forum system however none of them relate to specific cases and are from topics such as 'in the news'.

There are a couple of new updates to the forum today.

Firstly, members can now mark their general area of residence on the MEMBER MAP. Obviously this doesn't do anything particularly important but it would help demonstrate which areas are covered by members and which aren't. It's simply a case of zooming in and clicking on the map when you are logged in to park your area but I would suggest that if you intend to do so, you park the nearest town/city rather than being any more specific than that.

Secondly, after much ado, I've managed to alter the MEDIA GALLERY so that it can now display embedded google maps too. These must be in kml format which can be created by saving Google Earth places in that format.

As a result of looking through the server error logs today, I will be installing an additional security add on to the forum ASAP to ensure the security of member accounts is maintained. It appears that the forum has been bombarded with a number of attempts to log in which are done at such a rate as to cause 404 page not found errors.

Unfortunately, the error log does not identify if these attacks are against any specific member accounts, and it would take an inordinate amount of time to cross reference that log with one which would given the offset between the server time and members local time. If you have experienced being logged out without choosing to (whilst at the same time you have been actively browsing the forum or refreshing pages to keep your session active), please PM me since this could help assess whether the attempts are being made generally to all members, or against specific members which would obviously be a criminal offence and so must be reported.

While this is probably due to 'bots' which target forums to gain access to member accounts, in order to post spam messages for example, I would advise members to change their passwords as a precaution.

Ordinarily I would wait until early morning to install new features when the server, and forum in particular, is less busy. But since this is a security issue, I will apply the add on immediately. I have a few settings to check first, after which the forum will go briefly into maintenance mode while it is updated. This should only result in 5-10 minutes of downtime.
